Grant Writer – Science & SBIR Specialist

Position Type: Part-Time, Contract

Compensation: $30 per hour + Success fee

Location: Remote or Hybrid

Nexture Bio is seeking a Grant Writer to identify grant opportunities, track requirements, and prepare compelling grant submissions. This role involves collaboration with leadership to align grant applications with the company’s strategic objectives. Expertise in biotechnology, food science, and materials science is preferred to ensure alignment with funding opportunities in these fields. Experience working with local, state, and federal grants is preferred. This role is for an independent contractor.

Nexture is an enabling technology company that develops animal-component-free microcarriers, scaffolds, and cell-attachment factors made with ingredients that are safe and suitable for use in food products.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Opportunity Identification and Tracking

  • Conduct thorough searches for local, state, and national grant opportunities, including SBIR and similar programs. Eligible grants are not limited to scientific opportunities and may include business opportunities relative to Nexture Bio.
  • Track and maintain a database of relevant grant announcements, deadlines, and requirements.
  • Regularly update leadership on new opportunities and recommend viable options for submission.

Grant Development and Submission

  • Collaborate with Nexture Bio leadership to develop and refine topics for grant submissions that align with company goals and capabilities.
  • Write, draft, and prepare high-quality grant proposals, ensuring alignment with funding agency requirements and priorities.
  • Edit and proofread submissions for clarity, accuracy, and impact.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Provide insights on trends in biotech, food science, and materials science funding to identify emerging opportunities.
  • Ensure grant applications reflect Nexture Bio’s strategic priorities, innovations, and market positioning.

Skills and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in grant writing or related work in the life sciences or technology sectors.
  • Experience working with startups or small businesses in highly innovative fields.
  • Experience in biotechnology, food science, materials science, or a related field preferred.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Strong organizational skills to track multiple deadlines and ensure timely submission of proposals.
  • Proficiency in tools for grant tracking and submission.
  • Knowledge of funding opportunities and mechanisms in biotech, food science, or materials science.
  • Ability to independently manage projects and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Familiarity with the SBIR program and experience preparing submissions for federal agencies (e.g., NSF, USDA) preferred.
